How GPR data becomes an interpreted result
An antenna transmits energy into the surveyed material and records returning signals from changes in electromagnetic properties. Individual traces are assembled as the antenna moves. Operators look for repeatable shapes, alignments, changes, and depths, then correlate those observations with plans, visible features, and other evidence.
The output can range from surface marks to annotated screenshots, plan-view interpretations, or georeferenced data. The requested deliverable should state whether depths are estimated, whether positioning is surveyed, and how uncertain or inaccessible areas will be documented.
GPR depth and interpretation limitations
GPR performance is site-specific. Conductive soil, clay, moisture, salts, reinforcing steel, surface obstructions, target depth, target size, and antenna selection can reduce penetration or obscure a feature. A higher-frequency antenna can improve resolution while reducing useful depth; a lower-frequency antenna can trade detail for penetration.
